Carl FletcherFor many years I worked as a programmer, enjoying photography in my spare time. I am based in Cambridge, so there’s a lot to capture the imagination: grand buildings, beautiful landscapes and a wonderful mish-mash of events and activities. Recently, inspired by a sabbatical spent travelling around the USA, I decided to embark on another adventure: a freelance career doing what I love. I began photography as a way of catching the little, special memories of life, so my shots are full of detail. I aim to capture the essence of a person or a moment in time. On the other hand, I feel it is very important to be unobtrusive: if you are unused to being photographed there’s nothing worse than having a camera shoved in your face! I won’t order you around, or tell you to stand with your hand awkwardly placed on your hip (unless this is how you normally stand). I won’t shine bright lights in your face when you’re least expecting it. Instead, my style is documentary, which means that my photos give the most truthful representation of my subject. I find that this often yields some genuinely beautiful and poignant photos: a glimpse of emotion that might otherwise not be expressed, or a turn of the head or hand that is dramatic and unexpectedly cool. This is the reason I love taking photos: being able to capture true life in all its beauty. You can see from my portfolio that I am most experienced in shooting theatrical pieces, weddings and headshots. I would love to hear from anyone who would like a photographer for similar events. At the moment I am very keen to exercise my camera skills, so if you fancy taking a chance on an up-and-coming photographer, I can guarantee that my rates are competitive.
